The fashion label Valentino goes back to the Italian fashion designer Valentino Garavani. Two years earlier, Garavani and his business and temporary life partner Giancarlo Giammetti founded the fashion company in Rome, which still bears his first name today. While Valentino was responsible for creative design in the company, his partner Giammetti took over the management. The international success of the fashion label was not long in coming. Already the appearance at a fashion fair in Florence in 1962 helped the Italian luxury label to a breakthrough. In the late 1960s the big "V" became the famous official logo of the fashion label. In 1969 Valentino designed his first prêt-à-porter women's line, followed three years later by the first men's collection. Since 1975 Valentino has also been a guest at the Paris fashion shows. And since 1977, Valentino's fragrance creations have also been extremely successful.
With his exclusive style of the highest elegance, Valentino quickly found favour with celebrities all over the world. Hollywood stars such as Audrey Hepburn, Sophia Loren and Elizabeth Taylor dressed in the chic robes of the Italian star designer. Valentino's fashion was a fixture on the red carpet at many Hollywood galas and the annual Academy Awards. But also queens and princesses like Queen Paola of Belgium, Lady Diana and the Iranian Empress Farah Pahlavi were enthusiastic fans of Valentino's creations.
