In 1976 Iris von Arnim moved to Hamburg and opened a boutique in the Hanseatic city. In 1979 the designer showed a collection for the first time at a fashion fair in Düsseldorf. In the early 1980s she enriched the German knitwear market with unusual colour combinations and inlays. She was also one of the first fashion designers to bring cashmere wool to the German clothing market. This earned her the name "Cashmere Queen". At the beginning of the 1990s she supplemented her knitwear collection for the first time with a thematically coordinated ready-to-wear collection.
Since the 1990s Iris von Arnim has developed into one of the most recognised fashion designers in Germany. She has her very high quality fashion produced in Italy and runs her own shop in places like Munich, Düsseldorf and Kampen on Sylt. In 2010 she founded a partnership with former German supermodel Claudia Schiffer to develop a cashmere collection. Schiffer took over the creative management, while Armin took care of product development, production and sales. The two famous fashion ladies worked together successfully for two seasons. Since 2013, Cashmere Queen has also been selling a men's collection. Iris von Armin's collections have not been limited to sweaters and cardigans for years. Her label also carries trousers, skirts, dresses, tops and accessories.
