Hermès is one of the most famous luxury brands in the world. The French family business is based in Paris and was founded by Thierry Hermès in the French capital. Thierry Hermès was born in Krefeld - then still French annexed territory - and completed an apprenticeship as a saddler. In 1828 he married the French woman Christine Pierrat and moved with her to a suburb of Paris, where he pursued his profession. In the 1890s, the range was expanded to include fine suitcases and leather bags, handbags were introduced in the 1920s. Due to the robust and luxurious materials, the company quickly gained a reputation throughout Europe. The logo on which a passenger steers the carriage himself ("Le Duc") was introduced in the 1950s.
