The fashion house Givenchy from Paris is one of the most famous representatives of French Haute Couture. Givenchy's designs became world famous through fashion icons such as Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. For some years, Givenchy has been offering not only classic outfits but also very modern and daring looks with a touch of rock 'n' roll and gothic under the guidance of young designers. Let yourself be enchanted by the daring interpretations of elegant classics!
Count Hubert de Givenchy came from a French noble family and was therefore called the "aristocrat of fashion" by the press throughout his life. After several years of working with other French fashion designers, Givenchy founded his own fashion brand for exclusive haute couture creations in Paris in 1952. His combinations of white puff-sleeve blouses with raised collars and narrow, long pencil skirts quickly conquered the Parisian fashion scene. Givenchy also made a name for himself because of the rather unusual use of motifs such as fruits, vegetables or animals in French haute couture. Typical for the designs of the aristocrat of fashion were strong, bright colours and high waists as well as luxurious robes with floral patterns including oversized hats.
In 1953 Hubert de Givenchy met an actress who should have a great influence on his future work: Audrey Hepburn. Givenchy saw in her the ideal model for his fashion and Hepburn was enthusiastic about his fashion from the beginning. "Only in his clothes do I feel myself," the Hollywood star once said. The collaboration between Givenchy and Hepburn, which lasted until the death of the actress in 1993, made Givenchy a world-famous brand and Hepburn a style icon. Hepburn's appearance in the film "Breakfast at Tiffany's" in the Little Black, which Givenchy created together with Coco Chanel, remains unforgotten. Another world event at which Givenchy's brand was in the limelight was the funeral of US President Kennedy, at which his widow Jacqueline wore a Givenchy black shift dress. Many former Hollywood film stars, such as Lauren Bacall, Ingrid Bergman, Marlene Dietrich, Greta Garbo and Grace Kelly also made Givenchy fashion world-famous in the 1950s and 1960s.
