Fashion from Strenesse has stood for timeless elegance and sensual restraint for many decades. The fashion company was founded in 1949 in Nördlingen in southern Germany by the Strehle family under the name "Wohlfahrt & Co. At the end of the 1960s, the company name was changed to the current name Strenesse. The name is a combination of the family name of the founders and "Jeunesse", the French word for youth. The great boom of Strenesse came at the end of the 1970s, when Gabriele Hecke took over the fortunes of the fashion company as chief designer. Her signature as creative director shaped the company's success over many decades. From the end of the 1970s, Gerd Strehle as managing director and Gabriele Hecke as designer expanded the Strenesse collection. Under the management of the two later married couples, Strenesse developed in the following years from a small Swabian fashion company to an internationally renowned manufacturer of simple, elegant designer fashion made of high-quality materials.
Strenesse reached the zenith of its corporate success in the 1990s. In 1993 a somewhat less formal second women's line was introduced with "Strenesse Blue". From 1995, the label presented its women's fashion at the Milan Fashion Weeks. During the 1990s Strenesse also began to have shoes and accessories manufactured under licence. Since 2001, fragrances and cosmetics have also been marketed under the Strenesse label. And one year later, a men's collection was finally designed for the first time under the name "Strenesse Men".
In 2000 the economic success of the brand was crowned with the IPO. Through expansion in Europe, Japan and the USA, Strenesse has over the years become the internationally most famous German fashion brand in the upper segment alongside Escada, Hugo Boss and Joop! Strenesse also became known to a broad public as an outfitter for Lufthansa's female ground and flight attendant personnel. The fact that Strenesse was the official outfitter of the German national football team between 2006 and 2013 also contributed to the brand's popularity.
