MCM exudes timeless luxury through unconventional creativity, rebellious designs and unexpected models. The luxury brand was founded in Munich in 1976 by Michael Cromer - the German answer to Italian and French luxury brands such as Luis Vuitton and Gucci. When founding the brand, Michael Cromer focused on travel bags, shoes and clothing. In the meantime, the product range consists of a wide assortment with a focus on bags and accessories. Traditional craftsmanship combined with classic designs and current trends make the bags so unique. Already in the early years stars like Lady Diana, Michael Jackson or Catherine Deneuve bought the bags from MCM.

MCM - tradition and progress have a name

The MCM logo quickly became a guarantee of quality. MCM stands not only for Modern Creation Munich and its founder Michael Cromer Munich, but also for the year 1900 in Roman numerals. Because: 1900 is considered the beginning of the "era of travel". MCM therefore stands for the era of travel, which began in the jet set of the 1970s and continues to this day in the global nomadic world. MCM's laurel wreath is a symbol of honourable success - a symbol of tradition and striving for progress. MCM's diamond pattern used in the monogram is taken from an old French playing card, symbolising value, strength and a sense of tradition.

The traditional material used for the Monogram articles is Cognac Visetos. On all bags of the Heritage collection and on most of the products there is a brass plaque, which is identified by a number at the bottom. All four screws are placed around the brass plaque so that they point inwards towards the logo.

Lifestyle and luxury with MCM

The concept and vision of MCM is constantly being redefined by the modern lifestyle and the pragmatic requirements of future customers. Each piece is manufactured under the premise of delivering exceptional European craftsmanship. A tradition of masterful work and refinement of design sets strong trends with unconventionally stylish designs. Munich in the 1970s still inspires the glamorous, rebellious and innovative spirit of MCM.

Reinterpretation of the brand

After the brand's decline in 1997 due to the Asian crisis and tax scandals of the founder, it was sold several times until it was taken over by the Korean Sung Joo Kim, a former Asian licensee, in 2005. She brought Michael Michalsky on board and gave the luxury brand a new shine. MCM cooperated with numerous celebrities who designed luggage as guest designers. Michael Michalsky's successor, Dirk Schönberger, wants to reinvent an exciting legacy and build new products from the historic brand. With this project he is hitting the ravages of time.
