Jimmy Choo

Luxurious shoes for the red carpet - Jimmy Choo is today known worldwide for his elegant, seductive and modern shoe designs made with inimitable Italian craftsmanship. A luxury label and pioneer, Jimmy Choo brought shoes and handbags to the red carpet in Hollywood.

The son of a shoemaker family graduated from the "College of Fashion" and shortly afterwards quickly made a name for himself in the fashion world with his own shoe shop. But it wasn't until he founded the Jimmy Choo label together with British fashion editor Tamara Mellon and left the creative work to his niece Sandra Choi that the international breakthrough came. Today Jimmy Choo is one of the most sought-after shoe designers in the world, alongside Manolo Blahnik. His most loyal customers include Victoria Beckham, Kylie Minogue, Cameron Diaz and Emily Blunt.

Jimmy Choo

How Jimmy Chow became the sought-after shoe designer Jimmy Choo

Jimmy Chow, his real name, was born as the son of a shoemaker family in Malaysia. Here he learned from his father the traditional craft of shoemaking, which later helped him to achieve world fame. Only when he entered London to study at the "College of Fashion", Chow became the name Choo by mistake. After his successful studies and practical experience at the Swiss shoe company Bally, he opened his first shoe shop in the London borough of Hackney. His craftsmanship and extravagant designs met the spirit of the times. His elegant classic pumps were especially popular with celebrities and nobility. Princess Diana is said to have been one of his regular customers. Already at this time his niece Sandra Choi worked in the workshop. In 1996 Tamara Mellon discovered the couture shoemaker and as a fashion editor she knew about the current demand for noble, wearable ladies' shoes. Together with Jimmy Choo she financed and founded the shoe fashion label "Jimmy Choo". With Sandra Choi as creative director, they opened the first boutique on London's Motcomb Street - the beginning of a world career.

Jimmy Choo goes Hollywood

"I've lost my choo", this sentence by Carrie Bradshaw from "Sex in the City" has cult status with fans of the label. The feather sandal "Feather" by Jimmy Choo, worn by the popular leading actress in the series, became world famous. The same applies to the black peeptoes made of patent leather, which are among the bestsellers today and of course also find a place of honour in our Designer Second Hand Shop. Just two years after the opening in London, Jimmy Choo expanded to America and brought his shoe designs to the red carpet. Especially young Hollywood stars quickly fell in love with stilettos with spiked heels, pumps with extravagant patterns and platform sandals. So Jimmy Choo is today considered a Red Carpet label.

The style of the designer was very versatile and surprising right from the start. The collections inspire with simple models as well as with extravagant creations. But there is one thing you can always rely on: Jimmy Choo stands for the highest quality in terms of materials and workmanship. Today, the label includes men's shoes, handbags, leather goods, scarves, glasses, sunglasses and perfumes in addition to women's shoes. There are around 200 boutiques worldwide.
