Michael Kors

Michael Kors - the story of the exceptional designer behind the brand

Like almost no other brand, the Michael Kors brand is very closely connected to its founder and designer - the man who gave the company its name.

Michael David Kors was born on August 9, 1959 on Long Island in the state of New York in the USA as Karl Anderson. When his mother married the entrepreneur Bill Kors and he adopted the young Karl, the latter took the latter's last name and chose a new first name at the same time.

Since his mother wanted a career in show business for her son, Michael David Kors appeared in various television commercials at a young age. However, after graduating from school, Kors decided to study design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, which he never finished and dropped out early. Instead, he focused entirely on his own fashion label Michael Kors LLC, which he had already founded during his studies.

The rapid start of the Michael Kors brand

After the founding of Michael Kors LLC in 1981, Kors designed his first women's collection, which was immediately adopted into the assortment of two of the largest and most renowned department stores for luxury fashion, namely Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue.

Kors held his first own fashion show three years later in 1984, where he presented minimalist and American sportswear for women, which immediately earned him a good reputation as a designer in the fashion world. His fashion at that time was characterized by the fact that the clothes he designed were both comfortable to wear and visually impressive due to their outstanding design. Thus the sportswear, which had previously only been considered a typical American fashion phenomenon, became a success all over the world.

In the following years, Kors built on this success and added men's fashion, jewelry, handbags, and sunglasses to its assortment.

1993 was a tough year for the Michael Kors brand. After the company failed to introduce the "Kors" brand as a second brand and sales figures continued to fall, the company had to file for insolvency. Michael Kors restructured his company within a year, thus helping the company to get out of insolvency and start a new upswing.

Today, Michael Kors is one of the biggest and most famous luxury brands of all, and his stylish and exclusive sportswear is particularly popular. Of course you can also discover them in the designer second hand shop of Vite EnVogue.
