Italian elegance meets extravagant decorations and unusual prints - this is the best way to describe the style of the Italian luxury label Dolce & Gabbana. With their feminine cuts, wild animal prints, floral patterns, opulent lace and edgy shoes, D&G's unusual creations are absolutely unmistakable all over the world. The Italian designer duo's special sense of aesthetics makes the fashion so desirable. Dolce & Gabbana are not only masters of fashion design, but also true artists in other fields
Domenico Dolce from Sicily and Stefano Gabbana from Lombardy were more or less born into the art of tailoring. Dolce was already a talented tailor as a child and designed his own clothes at the age of six. The two future designer icons first met on the phone when Dolce applied for a job at the Gabbana fashion house. Gabbana immediately recognized Dolce's huge talent and introduced him to the processes of fashion design and garment making after his employment. In 1982 the two founded a joint design consultancy and three years later the now world famous designer duo presented their first collection on the catwalk at Milan Fashion Week. From then on, Dolce & Gabbana only went uphill. In 1986 the first D&G store opened and one year later the range was expanded to include knitwear. Since 1989 there has also been lingerie and swimwear and since 1990 a menswear collection under the D&G label. In 1992/93, the success story of Dolce & Gabbana's men's and women's fragrances finally began.
Dolce & Gabbana received great international attention in 1990, when pop star Madonna wore a jewel-studded corset and an accompanying jacket from D&G at the premiere of the documentary film "In Bed with Madonna". Madonna developed into one of the most loyal fans of the Italian luxury label. In 1993, Dolce & Gabbana designed more than 1,500 costumes together with the American pop singer for her international tour "Girlie Show". The Italian duo also designed the stage outfits for Madonna's international "Drowned World Tour" in 2001. In 2010 Madonna was even part of the advertising campaigns for D&G. However, Madonna was not the only artist Dolce & Gabbana has worked with so far. The Italian tailoring duo also designed many costumes for other world stars such as Beyoncé, Kylie Minogue, Mary J. Blidge, Missy Elliott and Whitney Houston. Their talent did not even stop at football. From 2004 to 2017, D&G outfitted the Italian national football team and the AC Milan football club.
